There are a range or ways you can manage pain during your period; herbal/over the counter remedies (such as Kalms), pain relief (paracetamol/ibuprofen), heat patches/hot water bottles. It is important to try out a range of things and find what works for you for the symptoms you experience before and during your period. If you are under 16, it is important that you speak to an adult such as a parent or a health practitioner before you start taking painkillers, even those you can get in supermarkets and over the counter. Gentle exercise such as yoga and walking can also help manage pain but don’t over-do it or feel guilty for taking a step back. Eating good food (see section on eating) can also help with long-term management of symptoms. Heat can also help, particularly abdominal pain, a good hot water bottle, heat pad, or hot bath can work magic!
Finding something that works for you and again seeking a medical opinion if you feel your pain can not be managed by any of the above. Unbearable/extreme pain that impacts your daily activities and levels of sleep is not normal and should be taken seriously by you and your GP.
