Period Products:

There are many different types of period product and the choices are getting bigger and better all the time. If you are new to having a period, there is so much choice for you.

There two types of period product.

Disposable – these are period products that you only use once. These include some pads and tampons.

Reusable – these are period products that you can use again and again. Some of them even last for five or ten years. These include some pads, period pants and menstrual cups/discs

Disposable period products can have a lasting impact on the environment. For example, in 2010 there were 23 menstrual pads and nine plastic tampon applicators per kilometre of beach. In Scotland, there are around 11,800km of coastline – so that’s a lot of waste left behind. This pollutes our coasts and can be harmful to wildlife. It is recommended, if you can, to use period products which are reusable. We will find out more about these.
